The children playing in snowshoes

January Highlights: Measuring Animal Tracks in the Forest, Strapping on Our Skates and Much More!

The first month of the year is over and it has been an absolute blast for us here at Discovery Child Care

This month we underwent our annual licensing inspection and passed with flying colours, got out in the beautiful snow with our snowshoes and skates, followed animals tracks in the forest and much more! Here are just a few of January’s highlights.

Our annual licensing inspection

Shout out to our amazing team of educators! We just had our annual licensing inspection and scored 100%. But even more importantly, our Program Advisor was blown away by the program!

Children skating on the ice
We loved getting our skates on in January!
  • “The outdoor environment is incredible!”
  • “Documentation in all rooms is incredibly detailed and children participate fully in it so there are notes and comments and observations by both children and teachers.”

Great job everybody!

Getting our skates on

It was a brisk, sunny day earlier in the month….perfect for strapping on the skates and snowshoes and heading outside! Some of the children had never skated before but that didn’t slow them down. Others were pros and didn’t need any help.

The children who weren’t skating loved the opportunity to explore our Nature Classroom in their snowshoes.

Having fun in the Forest School!

So much fun in Forest School today

Following animal tracks in the forest

Children playing in hammocks
Relaxing in our hammocks

We found so many animal tracks in the forest this month. We spent plenty of time following, measuring and wondering the mornings away. Not to mention hanging out and socializing in our hammocks!

Checking out the woolly bears!

The woolly bears may be sleeping but they are not forgotten. Today K.K pointed up to their box and started babbling! We brought the box down for the children to look at and the children were so excited! Listen to the conversations the infants had as they observed the sleeping woolly bears.

Our team attended the Naked Tree ID workshop

Some of our team attended Naked Tree ID workshop hosted by Living Green Barrie at the end of the month. It was a great day of learning in the forest.
