Discovery Child - Learning Through Play

All DISCOVERY programs provide safe and stimulating environments which provide children with the opportunity to learn through play.

Our programs are based on Emergent Curriculum, using the Project Approach. Emergent Curriculum follows each child’s interests, abilities and needs. The children are given first hand experiences to actively explore and learn from at their own pace.

THE PROJECT APPROACH is an in-depth investigation of a topic that develops when the children are exploring what is relevant, intellectually engaging and personally meaningful to them. The children are encouraged to formulate questions to be answered by the investigation, to make predictions about what the answer might be, and to compare their findings with those predictions. The ideas emerge from responding to interests, questions and concerns generated within a particular environment, by a particular group of children, at a particular time.

The curriculum is emergent because it evolves, diverging along new paths as choices and connections are made and always open to new possibilities that weren’t thought of during the initial planning process. Emergent curriculum arises naturally from adult-child interactions and situations that allow for "teachable moments."
