Year round programs for school age children.
We offer: before/after school programs, full day pd day/school holiday programs and summer camps. Children are walked to and from school, escorted by their classroom teachers. Children enrolled in our School Year Program will have first opportunity to enroll in our summer camp programs.
Programs offered:
School Year Program: Runs from September - End of June
Before & After School care for children enrolled in school Full day care for March Break, Christmas Break, PD days and snow days
Summer Camp Program: Runs July – Labour Day
- Summer camp - You may book just the weeks your need
- Registration for summer camp begins first week of March
- Camp runs from the end of June to Labour Day.
Room Structure:
Our school age program is licensed for 30 children ages 6-12 years old. We have two full time teachers working with the children. Space permitting, up to 4 JK/SK children may also be enrolled in our before & after school program.
Room Schedule:
Your child will be involved in indoor and outdoor play, structured and free play, quiet and busy activities. The teachers will plan a weekly schedule with input from your child.
Meal & Snacks:
- Before/After School Program: We provide an afternoon snack for the children enrolled in the before/after school program. We provide 2% milk or water plus a nutritious snack based on Canada’s Food Guide. Please see the menu posted on our parent board.
- PD days/Christmas Break/March Break/Summer Camp: The children will be required to “brown bag it” during these programs. Children should bring a morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack daily. Children should also pack a drink for the day. In keeping with our philosophy, we encourage the children to pack a litterless lunch. NO PEANUT or NUT PRODUCTS PLEASE!
The Program:
Our School-Age program provides an environment that:
- Is challenging both physically and mentally
- Fosters a positive self-concept and positive self-esteem
- Fosters friendships and new relationships
- Fosters independence and encourages choice
- Aids children in developing strong conflict resolution skills
- Allows children a sense of autonomy, and allows children to function as independent problem solvers
- Is safe, secure and friendly
- And as equally important, FUN!
The children will have input on the types of activities the teacher plans for the week. We plan developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that focus on all areas of development. Our room is set up into learning centres:
- Computer centre with educational software
- Dramatic play centre
- Dough centre
- Math centre & Puzzle centre
- Listening centre & Book Centre
- Creative Arts Centre
- Games and Free Play Centre
Both locations have a wonderful outdoor area for the children to play including: tether balls, an organic garden, a sports field, outdoor easels, block area, natural gardens, and enough room (2 acres @ Harvie and 1.5 acres @ Big Bay Point) to play all different kinds of cooperative games and sports. Our Harvie Road location also has an ice rink in the winter and a wonderful sports court including: Tennis, road hockey, a basketball court, 4 Square, Kings Court. The children were also involved in planning and building their very own Willow Hut and meeting area!
