Room schedule:
We have a flexible schedule that will reflect your child’s interests, abilities and needs. Your child will be provided times for quiet and busy play, sleep/rest time, outdoor and indoor activities, and structured and free play. We do many small group activities. Please see the schedule that is posted on our parent information board.
Daily information sharing:
We believe that childcare is a partnership between your family and the day care centre. Sharing of information is a vital component of a high quality childcare program. Our parent information board is one way that we can keep you informed. Items such as menus, program plans, daily schedules as well as articles, etc., can be found on the board. Please let us know if there is something you would like to see posted. Please feel free to speak with any of your child’s teachers regarding your child and their development. Appointments may also be booked outside of regular childcare hours. Feel free to call to book an appointment.
Meals and Snacks:
We provide a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack and a hot lunch daily. We also provide 2% milk and water for your child. Menus are posted on our parent information board. To help promote good dental hygiene, we will give milk and formula in cups or bottles and do not serve juice on a regular basis. We serve whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies, organic whenever possible, lean meats and vegetarian meals too. We have a wonderful cook who prepares fresh meals and snacks daily.
Toilet Training:
In keeping with a child centred philosophy, we do not believe in keeping a child out of our pre-school program because they are not toilet trained. Each child develops at his or her own pace. We will work on toilet training with you and your child in a no-pressure, respectful way. Please let us know what method you follow so that we may provide as much consistency for your child as possible. Diapers & wipes are provided by the centre for children in our junior room. Parents are required to provide diapers and wipes for their child in our senior room if needed. We follow all public health guidelines for diaper changing routines. The diaper change area is disinfected after every diaper change and the teacher will wash her hands after every change.
Rest time/Sleep time:
Children have their own cot. We supply the cot sheets. Please ensure that your child has a blanket for their bed. We will wash the sheets here. Your blanket will be sent home on every 2nd Friday for washing. Please remember to return it to the centre on Monday. The children go down for their naps/rest after lunch, around 12:30pm. Children who do not normally sleep will be given quiet activities on their beds. Provincial licensing requirements state that each child under the age of 6 years needs to have at least 1 hour of rest time/sleep time each day.
The Program:
In keeping with our emergent curriculum philosophy, we have a flexible, play based program that will reflect your child’s interests, abilities and needs; that will allow your child to develop at his or her own pace. We post a weekly program plan on the parent board located just inside our room. We plan developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that focus on all areas of development. We base all learning opportunities on each individual child’s interests, abilities and needs. Please feel free to join any of our activities.
