(Not all programs are available at all locations)
Program Locations:
Harvie Road
Big Bay Point
Room Structure:
Our nursery school program is licensed for 24 children, ages 2.5-5years. There are 3 teachers working with the children (1:8 ratio).
Nursery Program Hours: (September-end of June)
The nursery program runs between 9am-11:30 am daily. Children may be enrolled either 2 mornings per week (Tuesdays & Thursdays), 3 mornings per week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) or 5 mornings per week (Monday-Friday)
The Nursery program will not be run, and there will be no fees charged, during PD/School Board holidays. Parents will receive a list of these days at time of registration.
Parents are requested to arrive 5 minutes prior to pick up time in order to have time to discuss their child’s day with the teachers. There is a late pick up charge of $1/minute for any child not picked up by 11:30am. We are sorry but we need to be very strict on drop off and pick up times so as to maintain government regulated teacher/child ratios and licensed capacity.
Snacks:
We are committed to providing healthy meals and snacks based on Canada’s Food Guide. We provide a morning snack and it will be served at approx. 10am daily.
The Program:
In keeping with our emergent curriculum philosophy, we have a flexible, play based program that will reflect your child’s interests, abilities and needs; that will allow your child to develop at his or her own pace. We post a weekly program plan on the parent board located just inside our room. We plan developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that focus on all areas of development. We base all learning opportunities on each individual child’s interests, abilities and needs. Your child will be involved in both indoor and outdoor activities. Our room is set up into learning centres:
- Block Centre
- Dramatic Play Centre
- Dough Centre
- Math Centre
- Computer Centre with Educational Software
- Sensory Centre
- Science and Discovery Centre
- Puzzle Centre
- Creative Arts Centre
- Book Centre
- Free Play Centre (Toys)
All children are also involved in The Incredible Years-Dinosaur Classroom Curriculum called Dinosaur School. This is an evidence based curriculum that promotes social, emotional, and academic competence in children.
It helps
- Increase children's social skills.
- Increase children's understanding of feelings.
- Increase children's conflict management skills and decrease negative attributions.
- Increase academic engagement, school readiness, and cooperation with teachers.
