(Not all programs are available at all locations)
Program Locations:
Harvie Road
Room Structure:
Our Infant/Toddler room is licensed for 10 children, ages 12 months - 2 ½. We have 2 full-time teachers working with the children. Children must be independently walking to access this program.
Room Schedule:
We have a flexible schedule that will reflect your child’s interests, abilities and needs. Your child will be provided times for quiet and busy play, sleep/rest time, outdoor and indoor activities, and structured and free play. We do many small group activities. Please see the schedule that is posted on our parent information board.
Daily information sharing:
We believe that childcare is a partnership between your family and the day care centre. Sharing of information is a vital component of high quality childcare program. Our parent information board is one way that we can keep you informed. Information such as how your child slept and ate is recorded for you and can be found on our attendance clipboard just behind the attendance. Please feel free to speak with any of your child’s teachers for an update on your child’s day and their progress.
Meals and Snacks:
We provide a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack and a hot lunch daily. We also provide 2% milk and water for your child. Menus are posted on our parent information boards. To help promote good dental hygiene, we will give milk and formula in cups or bottles. We do not serve juice on a regular basis. We serve whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies, organic whenever possible, lean meats and vegetarian meals too. We have a wonderful cook who prepares fresh meals and snacks daily.
Diapering:
We believe that diaper changes are an excellent opportunity for one on one interaction with your child. The teachers will sing, play and talk with your child while changing his/her diaper. We follow all public health guidelines for diaper changing routines. The diaper change area is disinfected after every diaper change and the teacher will wash her hands after every change. We provide all diapers and wipes for your child. In keeping with our commitment to the environment, we recycle all diapers and wipes (whenever available).
Toilet Training:
We believe that each child develops at his or her own pace. With this in mind we will never force a child to sit on the toilet or potty. However, at each diaper change, we will ask your child if they would like to try sitting on the potty. We also may bring a few children into the bathroom at the same time to encourage learning from each other.
Sleep time:
Children have their own cot. We supply the cot sheets. Please ensure that your child has a blanket for their bed. We will wash the sheets here. Your blanket will be sent home every 2nd Friday for washing. Please remember to return it to the centre on Monday. Please let us know how your child normally falls asleep. i.e. with pacifier, rocked, etc. The children go down for their naps after lunch, around 12pm.

The Program:
In keeping with our emergent curriculum philosophy, we have a flexible, play based program that will reflect your child’s interests, abilities and needs; that will allow your child to develop at his or her own pace. We post a weekly program plan on the parent board located on the main door of our room. We plan developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that focus on all areas of development. Please feel free to join any of our activities. Some of the program areas are: Creative Arts, Social/Emotional, Dramatic Play, Blocks, Sensory Exploration, Music & Movement, Large and Small Muscle, and Language. We also use sign language with your child throughout the day. Please remember to check our Daily Program Recording form located on our parent information board to find out specific activities enjoyed each day.

What you will need to bring for your child:
- Blanket that may be left at the centre, any special sleep toy (if needed)
- Pacifier if needed (please label)
- Bottle with milk or formula if needed (please label)
- Any creams needed for diapering
- 2 complete changes of clothing including socks
- Outdoor clothing appropriate for the season. We go outside twice a day (weather permitting)
- Indoor shoes or slippers
- PLEASE REMEMBER TO LABEL EVERYTHING
Graduating to the Pre-School Room:
Your child will be moving to the Pre-School room when he/she is about 2-2 ½. They will move when they are developmentally and emotionally ready. Some children are ready a few months earlier and some a few months later. We will never rush the move. To help make the transition as easy as possible for your child, he/she will visit the Pre-school room first. In the beginning it may only be for an hour or so and your child’s teacher will visit with them. We will slowly increase the time that they spend in the room so that they may develop a trusting relationship with the teachers and also become familiar with the environment and routines. Please feel free to visit the Pre-School room and meet the teachers.
